The 1268 Upgrade of Water Network project was delivered for the Department of Defence at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnell, Dublin 22. McFadden Civils acted as Principal Contractor on this major utilities upgrade within a live operational military airbase.

The project involved the replacement and modernisation of approximately 4.8km of water mains and 1.5km of service pipework to improve reliability, fire protection capacity, and long-term network resilience. The system connects to 68 building services and 20 external connection points, with the installation of 28 new fire hydrants and associated infrastructure.

Works were carefully phased to maintain full operational continuity across both landside and airside areas throughout construction. Coordination with Air Traffic Control and site security ensured all activities were carried out safely without disruption to airfield operations.
McFadden Civils completed trench excavation, pipe installation, directional drilling, and reinstatement works, along with hydrant and valve chamber construction. Vacuum excavation was used in congested areas, and pipework was installed using butt fusion and electrofusion welding methods. The system was fully tested and commissioned, delivering a reliable and future-ready water network for the site.
