McFadden Civils was appointed as earthworks subcontractor for Zone 2, Package 8 of the A6 Randalstown to Castledawson Dualling Project on behalf of Graham Farrans Joint Venture. Delivered between June and November 2017, the works formed part of a major road infrastructure upgrade improving connectivity between Derry~Londonderry and Belfast.
The project involved the delivery of approximately 5km of dual carriageway earthworks to form the foundation for the new carriageway. This included bulk excavation, rock breaking, and the re-use and re-engineering of site-won materials to construct embankments along the route.
McFadden Civils also installed integrated drainage systems alongside earthworks operations and completed capping and sub-base layers to precise formation levels. These works provided the required platform for kerbing, pavement construction, and final surfacing.
Delivered within a live multi-contractor environment, the project required careful sequencing, coordination, and strict programme management. Despite challenging ground conditions and rock excavation sections, the works were completed on schedule, providing a stable and high-quality formation for the wider dualling scheme.
