Health & Safety
McFadden Civils operates a robust health, safety, and environmental management system across all projects in Ireland and the UK.
Safety leadership, audited performance, and measurable outcomes underpin every stage of our work, protecting our people, our clients, and the environments in which we operate.
Our Health & Safety Approach
Health and safety is embedded into daily operations through clear accountability, regular engagement, and continuous monitoring.
• Full-time Safety Officer overseeing all projects
• Weekly site safety meetings on every project
• Monthly internal site management safety meetings
• Site safety representatives appointed for each works package
• Site safety observation cards and letterboxes installed on all sites

Training, Fitness & Workforce Standards
We maintain high workforce standards through structured training, testing, and medical assessments.
- Accredited training modules delivered monthly at the main yard
- Bespoke company plant rules and operating standards
- Fit-for-work medical assessments completed for all staff
- Monthly random drug and alcohol testing across all projects
This ensures personnel are competent, compliant, and safe in the workplace.

Accreditations & Management Systems
McFadden Civils operates certified management systems that are externally audited and continuously reviewed.
- ISO 45001 Principal Contractor accreditation achieved in January 2021
- No corrective actions recorded in annual ISO surveillance audits to date
These systems provide clients with assurance that safety and compliance are managed in accordance with recognised international standards.
Sustainability & Carbon Tracking
Health, safety, and environmental responsibility are closely linked. McFadden Civils actively tracks carbon emissions across all recognised scopes to reduce environmental impact while maintaining safe and efficient operations.
Scope 1 – Direct Emissions
Direct emissions from company vehicles, plant, and on-site equipment are monitored and actively reduced.
A commitment is in place to achieve a minimum 5% annual reduction, with net-zero by 2035 as the target, without relying on carbon offsets.
Scope 2 – Indirect Energy Emissions
Emissions associated with purchased electricity and energy use are reduced through:
• Increased use of energy-efficient plants
• Adoption of renewable energy sources
• Improved operational efficiency across sites and yards
Scope 3 – Supply Chain & Indirect Emissions
Scope 3 emissions include materials, transport, waste, and supply chain activity.
While more complex to control, McFadden Civils has set a target of net zero by 2050, supported by:
• Use of fully certified and approved materials
• Reduction of embodied carbon in construction materials
• Waste minimisation and recycling
• Local procurement to reduce transport emissions
