The Quigley’s Point Earthworks Slippage Repairs project was delivered for Donegal County Council in Quigley’s Point, County Donegal, between November and December 2020. The works were undertaken to address slope instability affecting a road embankment and to restore long-term structural stability and road safety.

Site investigations identified groundwater pressure and inadequate drainage as key contributors to slope movement. A stabilisation solution was developed combining earthworks, structural support, and improved drainage measures.

Works included excavation of unsuitable material, formation of a stable platform, and construction of a reinforced retaining structure. Geotextile reinforcement was installed to improve soil stability, along with mesh reinforcement to enhance structural strength. A new drainage system, including collector drains and free-draining backfill, was installed to reduce hydrostatic pressure and prevent further slippage.

The project was delivered under strict COVID-19 controls while maintaining programme and budget requirements. The completed scheme provides improved embankment stability, enhanced drainage performance, and long-term protection of the roadway.
