Who we are
Desmond McFadden
Director
Desmond McFadden is the Founder and Managing Director of McFadden Civils Ltd and has led the company since its establishment in 1977. Beginning with one digger and the support of his father Francis, he grew the business from humble beginnings in Mountfield, Co Tyrone, into one of the most respected family-run civil engineering firms operating across Ireland and Scotland.
With more than 45 years’ experience in civil engineering, utilities, and plant operations, Des has overseen major infrastructure projects, deep drainage works, industrial developments, and public realm schemes.
Known for his hands-on approach, he remains closely involved in project delivery and client engagement, upholding the company’s reputation for reliability, fairness, and quality workmanship.
Outside of work, Des is active in showjumping circles and is a lifelong GAA supporter, having won juvenile medals with Killyclogher St Mary’s GAC in 1968.
Shane McFadden
Director
Shane McFadden is a Director at McFadden Civils Ltd and serves as Head of Earthworks and Construction, playing a key role in the company’s growth and project delivery.
Having learned the trade from the ground up, he brings extensive practical experience in civil engineering, site operations, and project management, along with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
Shane oversees resource planning, tendering, on-site delivery, and team coordination, while driving investment in modern plant, technology, and staff development. Known for his approachable manner and clear communication, he maintains excellent relationships with clients and teams across the business.
Outside work, Shane is a dedicated family man with three daughters. He represented Ireland in showjumping as a young rider and won a Tyrone Senior Football Championship medal with Killyclogher St Mary’s GAC in 2003.
Emmett McFadden
Director
Emmett McFadden is a Director at McFadden Civils Ltd and leads the delivery of utilities projects. Having progressed through the business from a young age, he has developed a strong, practical understanding of all aspects of project delivery.
Emmett oversees teams, coordinates project activities, and works closely with clients to deliver complex utilities, watermain, drainage, and infrastructure works.
His calm, methodical approach and strong problem-solving ability ensure projects meet the company’s high standards for quality, safety, and efficiency. He maintains a close on-site presence to support and guide crews, with a people-first approach.
Outside work, Emmett enjoys family life with his wife and four children and is active in the local community. A former captain of Killyclogher St Mary’s GAC, he won the Tyrone Senior Football Championship in 2016 and led the team as captain to the 2018 final. He is also a founder member of Mountfield FC.
