Project Details

The earth slipped on the side of the R240 approximately 3.3 km from Quigley’s Point on the Inishowen Peninsula, Co. Donegal. The work was to repair the slippage of the road embankment due to poor foundation and an influx of water due to a flood event. The road embankment was footed on sloping ground very close to a meandering river. The road level is approximately 14m above the riverbed. Ground water was evident due to the higher lying ground to the south of the carriageway.

McFadden Civils Ltd were awarded the contract to repair the slip and stabilise the slope holding the road above.

We set up traffic management approximately 150 m long closing one lane, then constructed an access from the road level to the toe of the slipped embankment to the works.

We liaised with neighbours, adjoining landowners, IFI and EA. Set up site offices welfare and stores with strict Covid 19 protocols. We prepared temporary work design and third-party checks.

Particular care was required to keep the river free from unfiltered/dirty water ingress from the site, and also to protect fibre optic cable in the ground at the head of the slope and OHLE

We employed a system of short excavations and reconstructs commencing at the far end of the slip and working towards the entrance that we made. The lorries that delivered the new stone carried away the defective clay. The new retaining wall was constructed in 750 mm layers of geo grid, compacted stone and reinforcement mesh bent to 68 degrees. The bank was then faced up with topsoil and seeded with native grass.

The client, Irish Water, requires a full rehabilitation of the supply to city of Cork to replace the current aging system and accommodate expansion of the City

Project Details

The works are within Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Dublin, Ireland, a protected curtilage comprising numerous protected structures. Works are within the confines of the Aerodrome. Works are both landside and airside. Airside works encompass the apron and two taxiways.

The new water network has been designed as a ring main. The site requires approx. 4.8 km of water mains and 1.5 km of service pipework to be laid, to serve the service entry points and hydrants

This project involves the installation of a new water distribution system connecting to 68 existing service pipes and 28 no. fire hydrants. The new water network shall be laid up to and within 48 buildings with the final connection to the existing internal building pipework. The new network will also connect externally to 20 existing service pipes. Connections are also required to an existing 50 mm PVC water main and 125 mm uPVC water main.

The works include installing water mains, construction of valve, meter and hydrant chambers, reinstatement of roads and airside apron, installing buried services and making the final connection to existing internal pipework, insulating above ground external water pipes, core drilling and rendering, commissioning new buried mains and services including pressure testing, flushing, swabbing, disinfecting and water quality testing, procuring materials and liaising with South Dublin County Council (SDCC) to co-ordinate connection of the new network to the existing site main. SDCC are to provide a new water meter and kiosk, to be placed in a water meter chamber.

2 storey school building along with another smaller new school, groundstore, binstore and horticulture building on a new site. 1000m of drainage installed, 1500m of services installed, 1000m of kerbing installed along with all other general groundwork activities including site clearance, reduced level excavation, building up levels, landscaping, foundations, concrete floors, street lighting etc.

The purpose of this project was to construct a new one of its kind Special Education Needs school. The main school buildings were also constructed by installing prefabricated modules together. .

Project Details

This project involved all site clearance, excavation and removal of 26000m3 of excess material, laying 22500m2 of reinforced concrete with K-form joints. We also installed ducting, cabling, lighting, security cameras, fire main and valves/hydrants and other services. The drainage to this area was done using channels, twinwall pipework, attenuation tanks and discharged through a pump chamber to the local authority drainage network.

Phase 3A Factory Extension

This project is for the completion of a 5000m2 extension to the existing factory. We are carrying out the extension including steel framework, cladding, brickwork and blockwork, reinforced concrete flooring, precast concrete stairs and floors, mechanical and electrical installation including sprinkler system, syphonic drainage, compressed air, heating installation and associated internal drainage.

Our works consisted of the construction of approximately 5km of dual carriageway including all drainage works plus preparation works for project structures.This included the bulk excavation and rockbreaking and then disposal or reuse of the material as required. We prepared all embankments incorporating  associated drainage. We then installed hardcore and capping material to specification  in preparation for the installation of kerbing and tarmacadam/asphalt.

We also carried out all storm and filter drainage including headwalls, manholes and related settlement ponds.

Project Details

Kilgallioch Windfarm in South Ayrshire, Scotland was commissioned by Scottish Power Renewables at a cost of £300 million. This project consisted of 96 turbines.


Our section of this project contained 25no turbines with all associated works which included initial site clearance, setting up compound, construction of 50km of access roads, turbine bases, hardstandings and substation construction. 

We also completed approx. 70km of excavation and backfill for the cabling works for each turbine back to the substation for connection to the national grid.

Project Details

This prestigious project consisted of the replacement of 6.5km watermain on campus, ranging from 38mm – 315mm diameter.

This watermain was successfully installed on campus roadways, grassed areas and landscaped areas, while ensuring the University of Stirling Campus water supply remained live throughout the project.

Installation was carried out using both open-cut and trenchless methods such as Directional Drilling, Slip-lining and Pipe Bursting.

Our works included the construction of 3km of enabling works entrance road from existing public road continuing through agricultural fields to the windfarm workface. 

Constructing a total of approx 10km of access roads through the entire windfarm connecting all turbines. Excavation of 16 number turbine bases, hardstandings, blade pads and all associated drainage works such as clean and dirty water ditches, silt fencing and road crossings. Trenching and ducting works around each turbine base was also completed.

Project Details

This new road bridge is a two-span cable-stayed bridge with an A-frame central pylon height of 105m and a crossing width of 330m across the River Wear between Castletown on the northern bank to Paillon on the southern bank. The main central pylon height of 105m makes it the tallest structure in Sunderland.

Our works consisted of initial site clearance, earthworks, demolition works, piling activities, new roadway construction and associated landscaping.
